This article details an agreement among some of the biggest technology, computer, and online companies to reduce the amount of energy used in computing. This is a great achievement of free market enterprisers taking the initiative to stay ahead of regulation, to be proactive, and to overall reduce the negative envirohuman impact of their businesses.

My Take: We probably can't expect all industries to be as committed to such change without a helping hand from regulation, but this goes to show it is not impossible and it could prove to be a great model for other industries to follow. Staying ahead of regulation and investing in innovations for improved product efficiency can possibly bring customers around to purchasing newer equipment, meaning new money, and a new challenge:

What do we do with old computer equipment? Due in an upcoming post.
